Closest commercial airport. Served by Delta, United, and Allegiant. Car rental available at the terminal. Drive north on US-20 through Ashton to Island Park.
West Yellowstone (WYS) 30 min
Small seasonal airport (summer only). Delta and United offer seasonal flights. Very limited rental cars — book well in advance.
Bozeman Yellowstone (BZN) 2 hr 45 min
Larger airport with more flight options and competitive prices. Drive south through West Yellowstone.
Jackson Hole (JAC) 3 hr
Scenic airport right inside Grand Teton NP. More expensive flights but stunning approach.
Salt Lake City (SLC) 5 hr
Major hub with the cheapest flights. Drive north on I-15 through Idaho Falls. Easy interstate driving.
🚗 Driving Tips
Winter driving: US-20 through Island Park is well-maintained but can be snowy and icy November–April. 4WD/AWD recommended. Carry chains. Check road conditions at 511.idaho.gov.
Targhee Pass: Scenic mountain pass (7,072 ft) between Bozeman/West Yellowstone and Island Park. Well-maintained year-round but can be snowy in winter.
Gas up: Fill your tank in Ashton or Island Park. Gas stations are spread far apart. There is no gas inside Yellowstone between the West Entrance and Old Faithful.
Cell service: Service is limited to spotty on US-20. Download offline maps before you arrive. The cabin has Wi-Fi.
Wildlife on roads: Drive carefully, especially at dawn and dusk. Moose, elk, and deer frequently cross US-20.
Speed limits: Island Park has strict speed limits (often 45 mph). Enforcement is common.
